How To Start A Blog

Are you ready to start a blog and share your story with the world, but not sure where to begin?

I can relate. When I set out to work from home in 2005, I had no idea how to get started. With a lot of hard work and trial and error, I built a successful e-commerce website and blog. I took a few years off and am ready to start a blog again: this time I plan to share my successes (and failures) with you.

Start a blog in just 20 minutes with these three easy steps. Domain name and hosting, Install WordPress, and add content. Learn how at Jennifer-Franklin.com.

I get asked all the time, "How did you get started?" The first step, getting your blog online is fairly simple. Got 2o minutes? Get started with these three easy steps.

It's as easy as:

1. domain name and hosting

Choosing a domain name is an important step in the process. Dot com is by far the most popular domain available. Try and keep your domain name short, simple to remember, and easy to spell.  Can you imagine telling people to check out your new blog at:

supercalafragalisticexpealadocious.com

(in case you were wondering, this does exist)

Think you have a great name? Begin by checking to see if your preferred domain name is available.

Enter a domain name below and click on 'Check Availability' to get started:

Or when you search at Bluehost it will look something like this:

Once you find a domain name that is available, you will create an account:

In order for your web address to display content, you will need to purchase a hosting plan. This is where you rent space for your website files to reside.

(Note: You will want to be self-hosted as opposed to housing your blog on a free blog site, especially if you ever want to monetize your blog. Plus, you will appear more professional. Below is a link to get you started with discounted hosting and a free domain, a $15.00 value)

Bluehost is the only hosting service officially recommended by WordPress. They have some great prices on hosting, plus if you sign up through this page, you’ll get a special offer of shared hosting at $5.95/month for 36 months, as well as a free domain name for a year!

I think that is...

2. INSTALL WORDPRESS

Once you are all signed up and are able to log in to your Bluehost hosting account, you can get started installing WordPress. Bluehost makes this step easy. In your cPanel, find the “MOJO Marketplace” section and choose the “One-Click Installs” button. Click on the WordPress icon.

This will open the installation window. Click on the green “Start” button that will start the WordPress installation process.

Next, you will be asked what domain you want to install it on. Click your domain or choose to set things up on a temporary domain.

On the next page, leave the default options and click complete. Once installed, you will receive an installation complete page and the login URL for your site as well as a password.

Congratulations, you are ready to start building your site!

3. ADD CONTENT

With WordPress, you don't need to know how to code to build a great website and blog.

To get started, log in to your WordPress dashboard with your username and password here (be sure to change "yourdomain.com" to your domain name):
